فردوسی شاعر بزرگ ایرانی بود. او حدود هزار سال پیش در توس زندگی می‌کرد.
فردوسی کتاب شاهنامه را نوشت. شاهنامه درباره‌ی پادشاهان، قهرمانان و داستان‌های قدیمی ایران است.
فردوسی سال‌های زیادی روی شاهنامه کار کرد. او می‌خواست داستان‌های قدیمی ایران و زبان فارسی را زنده نگه دارد.
در شاهنامه شخصیت‌های معروف زیادی هستند. رستم یک قهرمان بزرگ است. سهراب پسر رستم است. سیمرغ یک پرنده‌ی افسانه‌ای و دانا است.
شخصیت‌های دیگری مثل رودابه، تهمینه، سیاوش و ضحاک هم در شاهنامه هستند.
امروز مردم ایران هنوز شاهنامه می‌خوانند و داستان‌های آن را تعریف می‌کنند. فردوسی یکی از مهم‌ترین شاعران زبان فارسی است.

Shakhsiyat-hâ-ye digari mesl-e Rudâbe, Tahmine, Siyâvash va Zahhâk ham dar Shâhnâme hastand.
Emruz mardom-e Irân hanuz Shâhnâme mikhanand va dâstân-hâ-ye ân râ tarif mikonand. Ferdowsi yeki az mohem-tarin shâ'erân-e zabân-e Fârsi ast.
Ferdowsi was a great Iranian poet. He lived in Tus about one thousand years ago.

Today people in Iran still read the Shahnameh and tell its stories. Ferdowsi is one of the most important poets of the Persian language.
